Gotta fix the playoffs!

It seems completely insane to me that the New Orleans Saints are going to have to go on the road to face the winner of the Seahawks/ Rams game.  The atrocious NFC West is going to send a division winner to the playoffs that is either 7-9 or 8-8.  The Saints are 11-5 and are having to go on the road to face a team with a losing record?  Something about that is fundamentally flawed and needs to be fixed.  The NFL needs to amend the current format to ensure a team must have at least a winning record to be able to host a playoff game regardless of whether or not the are the champion of their division.  Come on NFL.  Step up.   They are so worried about concussions and illegal hits, that problems with the league like these seem to slip through the cracks.  Any suggestions from anyone on how the league can rectify this situation?

Finally! An exciting end to the NFL season.

Unlike in recent years, the NFL season still has some drama left in its tank at the end of this season.  For the last few years, divisions have been locked up and starters relegated to the bench so they can rest while the team throws a game away and prepares for the playoffs.  It's exciting to see that several divisions are determined in the last week of the season, and with the lockout looming, it's wise to squeeze every drop of football from this season since we may be watching the CFL next season.  Here is a quick breakdown of the divisions and what teams are looking to clinch today.
NFC
NFC East-  The Philadelphia Eagles have clinched the division and Michael Vick will be watching from the sidelines today.
NFC North-  The Chicago Bears have clinched the division and are looking to keep Green Bay out of the playoffs with a win today.
NFC South-  The Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints will both be battling for the division crown and a first round bye.
NFC West-  Why are we even talking about this division?  Granted there is some suspense left in this division with the game between the St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks determining the division champion.  St. Louis wins and they take their dominant 8-8 record into the playoffs.  Seattle wins and they become the team with the worst record to ever clinch a division at 7-9.

AFC
AFC East-  The New England Patriots have clinched the division and a first round bye.  Surprise, surprise.
AFC North- Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are both fighting today to lock up the division, although both have clinched a playoff berth.
AFC South- The Indianapolis Colts are looking to clinch the South today.  A loss by the Colts and a win by the Jacksonville Jaguars will put the Colts out and the then 7-9 Jaguars in.
AFC West- The Kansas City Chief have locked up the division.

With four of the eight divisions up for grabs today, the pro football landscape is finally dramatic enough to be worth picking up the remote for the final week of the season.
One prediction, and i'll make it an easy one since my last prediction was dead and buried by the end of the first quarter of the Michigan game.  The Indianapolis Colts beat the Tennessee Titans today and secure a spot in the playoffs for the ninth straight year.  What do you think the most exciting matchup to determine a division champion will be?  Let's get some trash talking going.

Dismal Big Ten Performances

The SEC continues to prove it is the dominant conference in college football by stomping every Big Ten team that dares take the field against them.  Michigan was thrashed in the worst beating of their team in a bowl game in Michigan history.  I redact my previous statements regarding the prediction and am beginning construction of the rocket ship to which we can strap Rich Rodriguez and shoot him and his staff straight to the moon.  Feel free to send rocket booster donations to my email address and i'll make sure your name goes on the rocket.

Who says Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year?

The actual bowl season begins today! The warm up bowls are over and the cash cow bowls are beginning!  I could touch on them all, but I'm gonna focus on one today.  The Gator Bowl featuring the long beleaguered Michigan Wolverines and the up and coming Mississippi State Bulldogs is a matchup full of intrigue not necessarily because of the game itself, but more for the ramifications coming from the outcome of the game.  The coaching tenure of Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez apparently hangs in the balance, and MSU coach Dan Mullen is looking to prove that he is worth the ten million dollar extension he recently signed.  The team with more to prove is the Michigan Wolverines, who, if they forget to load the defense on the bus as usual, will most certainly face another overhaul of the coaching position and retooling of the program.
MSU has already proven that they deserve all the credit they are receiving for  an overachieving season and they are looking to prove to a very impressive recruiting class that they are worthy of the influx of talent they can be receiving next year.
Michigan has entirely too much to prove today for MSU to cope with.  The Big Ten player of the year Denard Robinson is heading back to his home state of Florida and is healthy for the first time since the beginning of the season.  The defense for Michigan will need to play like more than Div. 1 players and less like a pee wee league squad, but in the end, the Michigan offense will be too much for MSU and walk away with a win.
The prediction for the game.  Michigan 42, MSU 35.
Lets hear from the Mississippi State fans on this one.  Why do you feel your team will step up and overcome the daunting challenge of stopping a high powered, jet fuel octane offense that has an all everything quarterback at the helm.  Chime in.
As a sidenote, i said yesterday that i will keep my opinions unbiased, but in the efforts of full disclosure, i feel the need to inform that i am a die hard Michigan fan, and this being the last game of the season, and possibly of Rich Rodriguez career, I have to say...... GO BLUE!!!!!!
